A few months ago, Square Enix revealed that Dragon Quest V will be getting a CG movie treatment in Japanese theaters. Long heralded as one of if not the best game in the series, Dragon Quest V was an obvious pick for a CG movie debut. Titled Dragon Quest: Your Story, the movie seems to closely follow the arc of the game, which shows a child growing up and gaining a family and eventually taking down the dark monsters that have been plaguing the world.
Today we get our first look at the movie, which you can see below.

Interestingly, the movie does not seem to be trying to ape the game’s original art at all, which was designed by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama. Instead, they appear to be going for more of a How to Train Your Dragon kind of look to the characters. It’s initially a little surprising, but I think it ends up working.
Dragon Quest: Your Story lands in Japanese theaters this August, but no word has been said yet about whether the movie will ever officially come to western shores.
