Nightdive shares teaser video of System Shock reboot ‘Adventure Alpha’

Nightdive Studios has revealed footage from its upcoming reboot of System Shock.

Though not long – it clocks in at just over a minute long – it offers a glimpse into what areas players can explore in the alpha test, as well as showcasing new textures and environments.

Although it’s not clear how players can wrangle an invite code out of the developer, Polygon reports the test has been shared predominately with backers who pledged $750 or more to its Kickstarter campaign.

“Welcome to the System Shock: Adventure Alpha!” states the video description. “Backers will be able to freely traverse Citadel Station, pick up items, listen to audio logs, read emails and complete the game’s objectives from start to finish.”

“These are the original textures and not final art,” the video description adds. “Not only will these re-tooled textures make the Adventure Alpha more interesting but it will provide the team with a blueprint of how to approach updated art, lighting, level design, and more.”

“These are the original levels using the original textures from the game,” the team further clarified in the comments section. “The purpose of this alpha is to rebuild all the levels 1:1 and be able to complete all the objectives necessary to finish the game. There will be many more updates, please stay tuned.”

Nightdive’s timeline for System Shock was revised in February when the studio put the project on ice after letting “things get out of control” just 18 months after the project raised $1.35 million USD on Kickstarter in 2016.
