Probably the best FIFA 19 bug in the world

There are FIFA 19 bugs, and then there’s this calamity.

Last week I published a mini-round-up of some of the more eye-catching FIFA 19 bugs I’d seen since the football game launched last month. EA Sports’ series is no stranger to bugs, of course. With so many virtual objects colliding into each other during an average match, things do on occasion go wrong.

But in the video, below, posted to the FIFA subreddit by user rustoffee, a lot goes wrong. A hell of a lot.

E-Sports ready from r/FIFA

Let’s start at the beginning. The attacking player is setting up a free kick. All seems normal. As Real Madrid defender Marcelo runs up to take the kick, a wild Paul Pogba appears out of thin air to knock the ball forward. That’s odd.

You’d think the defending team would boot the ball to safety, but it doesn’t. Seemingly paralyzed by fear, the defenders stand and watch as the ball trickles into the goal. Even the goalkeeper fails to react, simply staring at the thing as it rolls across the line.

But! The game does not register this as a goal. Somehow, Neymar boots the ball forward from in the goal, but the ball defies the laws of physics and screams back onto the pitch, fresh from a stint in an alternate dimension. It’s at this point the game seems to click back into gear and a shit 90s football-esque scramble concludes with the goalkeeper picking the ball up.

This all happens in a FUT Champions match – FIFA 19’s most hardcore online mode. The video is hilarious, but if this happened to me during a crucial Weekend League game I’d be crying real tears.

But there’s more! Every time I watch this video I spot another wonderful little moment. Did you spot Neymar bullying his way through the wall? Go on, give it another watch. I’ll wait.

And did you spot the players in the wall do a little jump ages after the ball is past them? And did you spot the players in the wall spring into action when the game decides it’s working again? Actually, just rewatch the video and stay with the wall. It’s great.

I should point out FIFA 19 doesn’t feel – to me at least – any more buggy than previous games in the series. Most of my matches are bug free – although there are plenty of moments that make me accuse the computer of cheating. But there’s definitely something about this year’s game, with it’s ridiculous overhead kicks, nonsensical referees and sliding tackles on goalkeepers, that makes it particularly fun to see break down.
