Risk of Rain 2 gets its version 1.0 release on Xbox One, PS4, and Switch today

Adds final stage and boss, new character, and more.

After almost 14 months of early access development on consoles, Hopoo Games’ acclaimed co-operative rogue-like shooter sequel Risk of Rain 2 is getting its full version 1.0 release today on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Switch.

Risk of Rain 2, if you’re unfamiliar, takes its 2D predecessor’s breathless core co-op action – pitting players against an ever-more-relentless parade of enemies in an increasingly hilarious ballet of bullets and chaos – and transplants the whole thing in three dimensions.

Development on the console versions of Risk of Rain 2 has lagged a little behind the PC game throughout early access, but Hopoo has been focussing its attention on wrapping up work on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch since the PC release of version 1.0 in August.

As such, today’s update, which adds the finishing touches to Risk of Rain 2 on consoles, introduces new story cutscenes, the final stage and boss, and a tenth playable character known as The Captain. The latter can stun targets and comes equipped with a shotgun-rifle that narrows its spread as it charges. It can also request probes and beacons from orbit, using them to provide armour or a healing zone for use by all players

A full list of changes and additions arriving in today’s version 1.0 update for Xbox One, PS4, and Switch can be found in Hopoo’s extensive patch notes.
