After 30 years, Nintendo fans want Zelda to be the star of a Legend of Zelda game – so much so, a team of modders are trying to make this happen within Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
We’ve seen plenty of Breath of the Wild mods before – it’s become a hobby for some, as the game’s Wii U build has been hacked onto PC and repeatedly edited. But this one’s a bit more involved – and there’s a clear aim behind it.
The project is the work of more than 20 people, according to a Kotaku report. You can find various gameplay updates posted to YouTube.
Right now, Zelda is a playable character – she’s been given a character model, can equip costumes which have also been hand-designed and has a new set of fan-recorded voices. It’s been going down well online:

The closest we’ve ever gotten to (officially) playing as Zelda is in spin-off titles such as Hyrule Warriors and Super Smash Bros (or as a Phantom in Spirit Tracks). Isn’t it time that changed, Nintendo?
