The Walking Dead creator’s company will complete Telltale’s The Final Season with the original dev team

The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman’s company, Skybound Games, has confirmed it’s picked up the rights to complete The Walking Dead: The Final Season.

“We’re SO happy to announce that we’ve reached a deal with @telltalegames that will allow Skybound to continue #TheWalkingDead: The Final Season!” it tweeted. “Let’s wrap up Clem’s story right! More details to come soon.”

According to Variety, Skybound Games hopes to work with members of the original Telltale team to finish the story, although “nothing has yet been finalised”.

According to a statement from Skybound to IGN, it has now “taken ownership of Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season and will finish the season. Skybound will work with members of the original Telltale team to finish the story in a way the fans deserve”.

Talking at New York Comic Con, Kirkman expanded on the news, telling fans at a The Walking Dead panel “we’ve successfully negotiated with Telltale Games for our company Skybound to come in and see Season 4 of the Telltale game to completion”.

“Just stay tuned. Everybody involved is trying to make sure Clementine’s story is told. It’s a very unfortunate situation, but hopefully we will come out of it in some kind of positive way. I am not concerned at the moment with having to tell the story in comic book form because I’m hoping that the games will eventually be completed.”

Telltale Games laid off the vast majority of its staff at the end of September. Despite assertions that it was retaining a skeleton team to keep some production going, they too were reportedly laid off just a few days later.
