Another week of Wordle begins with a slightly harder-than-average puzzle that you might well need some clues for. The best Wordle starting words are also a must to ensure you get your game off to a fine opening – although depending on which one you choose, it might not be much help today.
I’m a Wordle addict who’s been playing since December 2021, so I can definitely help you solve Wordle today and improve your game for tomorrow. Read on for my Wordle clues and hints to game #625 and bookmark this page so you can easily return tomorrow.

P is a very common first letter among Wordle answers. It’s the fifth most common in the alphabet and begins 141 solutions in total.

• There are no repeated letters in today’s Wordle.
Repeated letters are quite common in the game, with 748 of the 2,309 Wordle answers containing one. However, it’s still more likely that a Wordle doesn’t have one.

Y is the second most common ending letter in the game, behind only E. In total, 364 Wordle answers end with a Y.

Wordle today (game #625) – the answer
The answer to today’s Wordle, game #625, is… PINKY.
This one might be a little controversial, as several dictionaries, including Merriam-Webster, Collins and Cambridge, all prefer to spell it as PINKIE – at least when referring to the little finger, as opposed to the color. Technically there’s nothing wrong with spelling it as PINKY, particularly given that it could be used as ‘pink-ish in hue’ or similar, but it’s still one of those words you might have dismissed, or at least decided was slang rather than a real term.
Anyway, those issues aside it isn’t too difficult; WordleBot says people are solving it in an average of 4.1, which is the same as yesterday’s TOXIC, and which is around the norm for Wordle.
Many of the best Wordle starting words will have been quite unhelpful today. Only one of WordleBot’s top five left fewer than 100 possible solutions, and that was CRANE – which narrowed down the options to a still-quite-large 80. My own choice, STARE, drew a blank and left me with 318 options!
My second guess in this scenario is usually CLOUD or COULD. I went with the former today, and… drew another blank. This has only happened to me once or twice before and is always slightly terrifying.
So, 10 letters played, no letters uncovered. Still, at least that gave me a good idea of what the format of the word would be, because I now had just one remaining vowel (I) and knew that the answer was likely to end in a Y. I very nearly played PINKY as my next guess; It included the I and Y, plus common consonants in P and N. But in the end I decided the K was unlikely to be helpful, so instead went with NIMBY.
This did the trick: WordleBot told me after the game that I now had a mere three options, PINKY, KINKY and HINKY. I dismissed the second as being an unlikely choice of answer and didn’t think of the third, so I went with PINKY and scored a par 4/6.

Wordle yesterday (game #624) – clues

Wordle yesterday (game #624) – the answer
The answer to yesterday’s Wordle, game #624, was… TOXIC.
We had a brief interlude from Wordle’s tough run on Friday, with an answer that was among the easiest in the game for months. Today’s isn’t super-hard, but it could be tricky depending on your choice of the best Wordle starting words – and on how lucky you are.
The obvious complication here is the X in the middle. X is, as you might expect, an uncommon letter; in fact, it’s the third least likely to appear in an answer, ahead of only Q and J. There are only 37 of them in total, which is just 1.6% of all answers. You’d therefore only expect to get one every 62 games and indeed we last had one 55 games ago, with PIXIE (game #569).
The X aside, it’s not too bad. C is a fairly uncommon ending letter, but is common elsewhere, while T, O and I are all mainstays of Wordle answers.
My starter, STARE, didn’t help too much today – it left 119 possible solutions. But if you began with TRACE (4) or TRICE (5) you had a very lucky first guess, while CRATE and CARTE (both 24) weren’t too bad either.
My go-to word with a single T is always POINT, and it worked very nicely today. With a green O and a yellow I joining my still-yellow T, my options were vastly reduced. In fact, WordleBot says there were just two answers left. I’d come to the same conclusion independently, having only found TOXIC and MOTIF. TOXIC seemed like the more likely answer, so I guessed that and scored a 3/6.

What is Wordle?
If you’re on this page then you almost certainly know what Wordle is already, and indeed have probably been playing it for a while. And even if you’ve not been playing it, you must surely have heard of it by now, because it’s the viral word game phenomenon that took the world by storm last year and is still going strong in 2023.
We’ve got a full guide to the game in our What is Wordle page, but if you just want a refresher then here are the basics.
What is Wordle?
Wordle challenges you to guess a new five-letter word each day. You get six guesses, with each one revealing a little more information. If one of the letters in your guess is in the answer and in the right place, it turns green. If it’s in the answer but in the wrong place, it turns yellow. And if it’s not in the answer at all it turns gray. Simple, eh?
It’s played online via the Wordle website (opens in new tab) or the New York Times’ Crossword app (iOS (opens in new tab) / Android (opens in new tab)), and is entirely free.
Crucially, the answer is the same for everyone each day, meaning that you’re competing against the rest of the world, rather than just against yourself or the game. The puzzle then resets each day at midnight in your local time, giving you a new challenge, and the chance to extend your streak.
What are the Wordle rules?
The rules of Wordle are pretty straightforward, but with a couple of curveballs thrown in for good measure.
1. Letters that are in the answer and in the right place turn green.
2. Letters that are in the answer but in the wrong place turn yellow.
3. Letters that are not in the answer turn gray.
4. Answers are never plural.
5. Letters can appear more than once. So if your guess includes two of one letter, they may both turn yellow, both turn green, or one could be yellow and the other green.
6. Each guess must be a valid word in Wordle’s dictionary. You can’t guess ABCDE, for instance.
7. You do not have to include correct letters in subsequent guesses unless you play on Hard mode.
8. You have six guesses to solve the Wordle.
9. You must complete the daily Wordle before midnight in your timezone.
10. All answers are drawn from Wordle’s list of 2,309 solutions. However…
11. Wordle will accept a wider pool of words as guesses – some 10,000 of them. For instance, you can guess a plural such as WORDS. It definitely won’t be right (see point 4 above), but Wordle will accept it as a guess.
