Stardew Valley’s 1.5 update is “in the home stretch” of development

Hopefully it’ll turnip soon.

Back in February, developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone announced he still wasn’t quite done with farming life phenomenon Stardew Valley, and that more content would be coming as part of a future 1.5 update. Now, Barone has offered a progress report, confirming that version 1.5 is finally “in the home stretch of development”.

To date, Barone has only teased a handful of details concerning the new features coming as part of Stardew Valley’s 1.5 update, but what’s been revealed so far point to a surprisingly wide-ranging series of additions to a game which initially released back in 2016.

For starters, there’s a new split-screen co-op mode for up to four pals on PC (although this number may be reduced on other platforms), and Barone has confirmed Update 1.5 will also enable players to grow bananas and, in the real megaton announcement, move their beds.

In a new post on Twitter, Barone has now confirmed Stardew Valley 1.5 is “in the ‘home stretch'” of development, but says there’s still some work to be done before it’s fit for release. It’s “a very big update so there is a lot of polishing and bug fixing necessary to make sure it’s ready,” he explained, “I think you’ll be really happy and surprised with all the new stuff!”.

As for what’s next after Stardew Valley’s 1.5 update, Barone has previously said that while he’s unwilling to commit to a 1.6, he wouldn’t be surprised if there was “another Stardew Valley update, or multiple updates, or a Stardew Valley 2” in the future.

Currently though, the developer has two additional projects in the works, said to be single-player, top-down 2D games with a pixel art aesthetic, one of which is a non-farming game set in the Stardew Valley universe.
